Backlist Review: Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles #1) by Marissa Meyer

Cinder is a cyborg and talented mechanic who runs a booth at the local market for repairs. By chance, she meets Prince Kaito and they start a precarious friendship. When Cinder’s sister Peony falls sick with leutomosis, she is sent to be a volunteer for the cyborg draft to find a cure. However, Cinder doesn’t die from the tests, instead she learns dangerous secrets about herself.

This is such a wonderful sci-fi fairytale retelling of Cinderella! I loved Cinder from the first page, she was super easy to like. I really liked her friendship with Kai, he’s so adorable and I loved how he flirted with her. My favorite of the story was definitely Iko. She has such a strong personality and was there for Cinder, when no one else was.

I loved seeing how secrets were unveiled and how Luna and Earth interacted with each other. It was kind of cool to see that people lived on the moon and evolved to become something slightly different from human. While I loved the story, the ball scene still makes me cringe so much!! Poor Cinder was only trying to do the right thing. I’m hoping to reread the rest of the series sometime this month too!
