Anticipated Reads January-April 2020

So many new books are coming out in 2020! How does one even decide which ones to get!? I was going to split the year in half, but there were still too many books I wanted to include! I’m splitting 2020 up into quarters so I’ll have three Anticipated Reads posts, with ten books each. I’ll be listing them by release date, because ranking them is death to my reader heart.

January 2020:

A Heart So Fierce and Broken (Cursebreakers, #2)
Book 2 in the Cursebreakers Series by Brigid Kemmerer

Okay I said I wasn’t going to rank them, but A Heart so Fierce & Broken is probably my top anticipated read for 2020! I’ve completely fallen in love with Kemmerer’s writing style and I’ve loved every single one of her books I’ve read. This book is already published, and came out January 7th. I finally have the Barnes & Noble exclusive edition and I couldn’t be happier!

Loveboat, Taipei (Loveboat, Taipei, #1)
The first in the Loveboat duology, by debut author Abigail Hing Wen.

My second pick for January is the Barnes & Noble YA Bookclub–Loveboat, Taipei–pick for February! This book sounds so adorable and it’s also own voices. One of my bookish resolutions was to read diversely and I’m really happy to do that with this book. One of my labmates is from Taiwan too so I’m totally going to ask her about this!! Released January 7th too. Why do so many books come out on the same day? My wallet is crying.

The start of a new duology by Scott Reintgen, the author of The Nyxia Triad.

I’ve heard so many good things about Ashlords already. And that cover… hot damn! I really enjoyed the first book of The Nyxia Triad called Nyxia. It was a really interesting sci-fi, so I can’t wait to see how Reintgen does fantasy. Phoenix horse riders + Alchemy?? Speak no more, I must read it now! Everyone will be able to read it on January 21st.

February 2020:

The King of Crows (The Diviners, #4)
The final installment of the Diviners series by Libba Bray

There’s no way I’m going to be ready for the Diviners series to end. The wait for each subsequent book has been awful, especially for The King of Crows. I need to know if my babies are okay!? This series is an amalgamation of every genre, but damn is it good. Ever since Lair of Dreams, this series has risen to a top series of mine. It has gotten incredibly creepy, but Libba nails the atmosphere every time without it overpowering the story. My suffering will end (really begin again) on February 4th.

Honor Lost (The Honors, #3)
The final book in the Honors trilogy by Rachel Caine & Ann Aguirre.

I died when I read Honor Among Thieves. To say I’m excited for Honor Lost is an understatement. While I haven’t read the second book yet, I promise I will devour this series ASAP. I am not sure I will survive this end of this series, but it’s one of my top sci-fi picks of like all time. Honor Lost comes out February 11th.

March 2020:

I’m so excited for these three books and they all come out on the same day–March 3rd! My excitement is too much so these are in no particular order because I NEED THEM ALL.

Chain of Gold (The Last Hours, #1)
Return to the Shadowhunter world with the newest series, The Last Hours, by Cassandra Clare.

I’ve loved the Shadowhunter universe since I first read The Mortal Instruments. But The Dark Artifices consumed my soul and I am now a demon. I would honestly kill for Emma and the Blackthorns. Plus Cristina & Kieran!!! Like agh swoon. I also loved Tessa, Will & Jem so much that my heart cried at the end of Clockwork Princess. I can’t wait to see Tessa & Will’s children and Blackthorn ancestors!!! Chain of Gold is going to be a masterpiece.

The Kingdom of Back
Marie Lu is a genius and I cannot wait for this book in particular.

The Kingdom of Back is going to blow my mind, I can feel it now. This cover is so amazing, like what the heck. Ever since Warcross, I’ve become a die hard Marie Lu fan. I enjoyed her previous books, but Warcross changed the whole game for me (see what I did there haha). I am so excited to see what Marie will do with this historical fantasy!

Wicked As You Wish (A Hundred Names for Magic, #1)
Rin Chupeco has another book, please slay me now. The beginning of a new series, A Thousand Names for Magic!

The Bone Witch is one of the best series I’ve ever read. Then, The Never Tilting World murdered me. Rin Chupeco is a master of storytelling and I need to consume every story she writes, especially Wicked as You Wish. I wish so much that I’d gotten the December Fairyloot since it came with this ARC. March 3rd cannot come fast enough.

April 2020:

Chosen Ones (The Chosen Ones, #1)
Veronica Roth is turning to the adult genre and this one sounds epic!

I loved Divergent and Carve the Mark. I am so ready for Roth to dive into the adult genre with Chosen Ones. Honestly, I was ready to read it not even knowing the synopsis, but now that I’ve read it, this sounds 1000x better than I had imagined! This comes out April 7th!

The Empire of Dreams (Fire and Thorns, #4)
Return to the world of The Girl of Fire & Thorns with a stand-alone sequel to the trilogy by Rae Carson.

Okay, I might have lied about A Heart so Fierce & Broken being my overall number 1. Because I forgot about this one, but it’s really damn close. The Girl of Fire & Thorns is one of my all time favorite trilogies ever. It was the first book where I felt seen, because the MC was fat. Fat MCs back in 2011 were extremely rare. Plus Elisa’s journey to her faith and destiny was amazing and there’s not enough words to describe how it impacted me. The Empire of Dreams will pick up with one of my favorite side characters, Red Sparkle Stone! I can’t wait to see Elisa even more grown up. This journey begins on April 7th.
