It’s 2020!! I am so ready for the Roarin’ 20’s. Here’s to hoping they’ll be kind to everyone.
I know I’ve been really absent on here, and I’m hoping to change that this year. One of my resolutions is to post on my blog at least twice a month, but that might include reviews and it might not? I haven’t decided. Sadly, I’m starting the New Year off with a small bout of “holiday plague”. It normally comes from family and an overexposure to too many people haha!
Let’s talk 2019 wrap-up though!
Best books of the Year (in no particular order): Winter of the Witch (The Winternight Trilogy #3) by Katherine Arden, The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys, The Bone Witch (The Bone Witch #1) by Rin Chupeco, The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros & Wicked like a Wildfire (Hibiscus Daughter #1) by Lana Popovic.
I’ve linked all of my Goodreads reviews above, but I’ll take a second to tell you a little something about each book below:
The Winter of the Witch (The Winternight Trilogy #3) by Katherine Arden: I’ve loved Vasya’s spirit since I first read The Bear & the Nightingale in December 2018. Then her relationship with her family and Morozko absolutely slayed me. This ending was everything I wanted it to be AND more! Filled with magic, action and more of my favorite frost demon.
The Fountains of Silence by Ruta Sepetys: Ruta has owned my heart since I first read Between Shades of Gray. It killed me and so has every book of hers since! I didn’t even know she was coming out with a new book until this was announced as the Barnes & Noble YA Bookclub read for the month of November. This story was heartbreaking and so powerful, I still haven’t recovered. I can’t wait for her next masterpiece!
The Bone Witch (The Bone Witch #1) by Rin Chupeco: This is the only book on here that’s a 4-star rating, but I don’t care, it deserves this spot. Technically, this was also a reread for 2019, but I also finished the series!! This trilogy was so amazing and every book I found myself even more in love with Tea and like literally everyone. The Shadowglass was the perfect ending and I’ll most likely be rereading this series this year because I LOVE IT WITH ALL MY HEART.
The Last Letter by Rebecca Yarros: Listen, if you read this, you will want at least one box of tissues by you. While this book was not the first to make me cry, it made me cry the MOST. Rebecca and I will be having some WORDS at Apollycon lol. I don’t know if her other books are as evil, but I wouldn’t even care because I fell so hard for this book. The family bonds are amazing and like I’m already ready to cry again, so just go read this and CRY!
Wicked like a Wildfire (Hibiscus Daughter #1) by Lana Popovic: I didn’t know what I was in for when I picked this book up. I’d seen it for a very long time and was always curious. Thanks to it being on The Booket List 2019, my friend and I decided to buddy read it! We immediately devoured this and the sequel, Fierce like a Firestorm. I loved Iris so much and I related to her on a soul level. Everything in this story was utter perfection and the witch powers were phenomenal!
I hope you’ll consider picking up one or more of these! Tell me if you do and what were some of your favorites of 2019?
