Wicked like a Wildfire (Hibiscus Daughter #1) by Lana Popovic

THIS WAS AMAZING!! (Seriously all the stars)

Twin sisters Iris and Malina have always been able to use magic in the form of the gleam. They can alter difference aspects of beauty. Malina can sing emotions that people around her are feeling. Iris can make objects fractal to infinity, imagine an infinite kaleidoscope effect. When their mother is attacked, Iris and Malina are determined to figure out what happened to her. In order to do this, they must track down their mom’s hometown and they’ll unearth terrifying secrets.

I can’t express how much I absolutely adored this story. There are not enough words for it. When I first started reading it, I was mostly confused since Iris and her mother have such a tough relationship. But as the story continued to unfold, I was quickly captivated by the atmosphere of Montenegro and the legends of witches.

As the girls investigate the mystery of their heritage, they must rely on their friends Luka & Nikoleta Damjanac, whose mother was a Romany traveler. They have their own sort of magic and mysticism that plays a role in the story. I loved the friendship between these four. There is also some romance and I was so happy when we found out Malina’s love interest. I was really hoping for it pretty early in the book and when it was true, I basically leapt for joy.

This story has such a haunting aura and I could not get enough of it. It was such a struggle to put this book down. Once I got to 25%, I was seriously contemplating finishing this in one night. Since I did actually read the ebook, I basically devoured it in four-five days. I’ve already planned to read the next book with my buddy as well.

The ending was so not fair! I need answers now!! I loved the twists that were introduced in the last 25% and I can’t wait to see how all of this will be resolved. If you’re looking for a book with love, friendship, magic and witches, I’d highly recommend this one!
