Women’s Bodies

This poem was written in response to this image

Our bodies are containers

To hold our cells and organs

Each part vital for life

Women are seen as objects

Defined by our shape

Judged for looks and appeal

Marketed for men

Sold as propaganda

Buy this and you’ll get lucky

Women are perceived as less

Not human, but a

Frivolous endeavor

Women aren’t appreciated for their brains

Strong bones or charismatic hearts
Only as a sex object

To survive in a career

Women are told “be attractive”

Promote products through flirtation

Told to stay home

Be a mother

Acquiesce to your man

Women are more than a pretty face

Not defined by one purpose

Or one label

Even in a Man-dominated World

Women push through

Demanding to be heard
